HAKONE GINYU -Article(4)-
When it first reopened, it was widely introduced in the mass media as having an open-air bath in every room, which was rare at the time. Moreover, the large bathtub was placed on a spacious open terrace overlooking the Hayakawa Valley, and this alone succeeded in impressing many people. In front of the open-air guest room baths, there was only the sky and the mountains. There was no hotel or private houses in sight. Even if you get out of the bathtub and walk around the terrace naked, you will not be bothered by people's eyes. The time spent naked in the open-air filled each person with imagination. |

The service level of the staff at Hakone Ginyu is known to be extremely high. They are elegant and smart in their customer service. For example, if you ask them a question, they will usually respond immediately. They don't often ask for help and ask the office for help, saying, "Please wait a moment", like a typical ryokan waitress. This is a fact because most of the staff members are full-time employees every day. Because the inn is full almost every day of the week, including weekdays, staff members are assigned to work days on a rotating basis. In other words, inns that are fully booked only on weekends have part-time or temporary staff available only then. What makes the staff at "Hakone Ginyu" feel relaxed is that the same staff (full-time employees) work at the inn every day, regardless of whether it is a busy season or a weekend, so they know every detail of the facility. |
A part-timer who only works Saturdays would not be able to do that. This is the secret of the high level of hospitality at this inn. This is why heirs of ryokans from all over the country are said to be staying at this inn as staff members for training. |

Cuisine is also a major part of the enjoyment of staying at an inn. Dinner at "Hakone Ginyu" is kaiseki cuisine with carefully selected ingredients to evoke the best of Japan. The cuisine at "Hakone Ginyu" is not based on a small theme of local production for local consumption by prefecture, but rather, carefully selected seasonal ingredients are brought in from all over Japan and served to guests with the utmost care and attention to detail. Basically, meals are served in the room, but the dining space for dining and the bedroom are separated exactly, so you can enjoy them comfortably. For breakfast, guests can choose between Japanese and Western-style meals. These meals promise a blissful time, including the ambience of the room, the surrounding environment, and the conversation with your loved ones. |

Another major attraction of the inn is its directly managed, full-scale esthetic salon, to which most female guests subscribe. The former facility in the guest room building was relocated to a pavilion in the Hakone forest, surrounded by greenery, and opened in September 2010 as the "Ginyu Spa", with upgraded services. The spa is now open to day-trippers as well, as the inn has been having difficulty in getting reservations for stays. The therapists at "Hakone Ginyu" are not tenants, but directly managed. Because they are in direct contact with the customers' skin, they cannot be easily entrusted to an outside company. In fact, it is very rare to find a spa facility with its own staff in Japan. |

In any case, booking a room at "Hakone Ginyu" will make the perfect gift for your significant other or parents. Hakone is only a short one-hour drive from Tokyo on weekdays, but the spectacular view from the lobby will instantly transport you to an extraordinary world. The inn will show you the natural beauty of the country of Japan. What is wonderful about "Hakone Ginyu" as a Japanese ryokan is that the view of the Hakone mountain range from the inn, from your room, and from the open-air guest room, symbolically shows you the four seasons. |

And since the entire building is covered with tatami mats, guests can walk around the inn barefoot, reminding them of the goodness of tatami mats and the comfort of walking barefoot. Incidentally, we have heard that slippers were invented by the Japanese in the early Meiji period (1868-1912). It is said that the idea was to prevent foreigners from entering the house without taking off their shoes. However, this inn teaches Japanese culture by making foreigners take off their shoes and walk barefoot. From another angle, an inn that does not use slippers is that much more thorough in its cleaning. On the other hand, an innkeeper once told us that an inn with slippers is a sign that the cleaning is not done properly. |
