KANNON ONSEN -Facilities & Hot Spring Reports(4)-

Let me introduce the facilities of this inn in turn.
Next to the main building is the new "Pygmalion" building, which opened in 2004.
The name comes from the "Pygmalion Effect" in psychology.
KANNON ONSEN -Facilities & Hot Spring Reports images This phrase comes from a fable in Greek mythology that says, "Never settle for anything less than what it is now, and always keep faith with your ideals, and eventually these ideals will become a reality".
The inn's own wish to be of service to the health and wellbeing of its guests who bathe in its hot springs has become a reality, and the phrase is said to be derived from the inn's desire to be of further service.
Exterior view of "Pygmalion"
The "Pygmalion" consists of a lobby and lounge on the first floor, a dining area on the second floor, and guest rooms on the third and fourth floors.
Visitors take off their shoes at the entrance, and the entire building, from the entrance to the corridors, is covered with tatami mats. It is a relaxing space where you can open your legs and feet.
Each of the 18 guest rooms has an open-air bath with its own hot spring water, giving the rooms a special, one-rank higher feel.
The lounge is open as a bar from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Next to the main building and across the Yagura of the No. 2 source is the "Seiunkan".
It is named after the founder, who was himself a martial artist.
The building was renovated in 2006, and has six rooms, each with different colors of wallpaper and layouts.
The flooring and bathrooms are made of cypress wood from the property, and the indoor baths in all the rooms are run from a natural hot spring.

The corridor connecting the guest rooms is like a different space.
The planetarium-like ceiling creates a fantastic atmosphere.

One of the most important features of this inn is its various sports facilities.
Although not common in most hot spring resorts, a martial arts hall was first built when the first hot spring was discovered in this area.
KANNON ONSEN -Facilities & Hot Spring Reports images It was also built prior to the inn as a place for training to cultivate the "Japanese martial arts spirit".
"Seiunkan" has a 120 tatami mats martial arts hall on the first floor and a 22m x 44m gymnasium on the second floor.
The gymnasium is a place for kendo, aerobic dance, wrestling, archery, gymnastics, and brass band practice, among others.
Gymnasium on the second floor of the "Seiunkan"
In fact, it has been used as a training camp for many training camps, and before the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, it was used as a training camp for the Japanese national weightlifting team.
Next to the plastic greenhouses are a boxing gym and a weight training gym, all of which are equipped with full-scale facilities.
The boxing club of the famous Tokyo University of Agriculture has been using this place for more than 25 years, and they still hold a training camp every spring.

Lastly, let us introduce you to the 15-room detached "Ubusuna-tei".
This was the first building to offer accommodations at "Kannon Onsen".
The building was constructed using hinoki cypress grown on the property, a wooden structure that is now a rarity in Japan.
In December 2005, the building was renovated, and pets (small dogs only) are now allowed to stay in this detached building.
With its quiet atmosphere and reasonable rates, this is a building suitable for a stay or a hot-spring cure.

This "Ubusuna-tei" also has separate large public baths for men and women.
The women's bath consists of an indoor "Otome-buro" (maiden bath) and an open-air bath.
Both the indoor and open-air baths are large enough to accommodate six to seven adults.

The men's baths include an indoor "Hyotan-buro" (gourd bath) and an open-air bath.
The spacious design allows you to enjoy the baths in a relaxed atmosphere.
