Tenboroten-no-Yu ARIMAKAN -Facilities & Hot Spring Reports(5)-

The cycle of Kaminoyama Onsen is thought to be as follows: rain that fell on the ground about 20 to 60 years ago soaks into the ground, is filtered by natural stones in several underground strata, heated by underground magma, mixed with natural minerals, and gushes back to the surface as a hot spring.
The spring water pumped up from 350 meters underground is like mineral water.
The founder of "Arimakan" once dug up the source, and there was a time when the inn itself owned the source, but now the rights to the hot spring have been handed over to a hot spring management association, and the hot spring water is supplied to the inn as a centrally controlled and distributed hot spring (Shinyu source), just like other ryokans.
According to President Sudo of Arimakan, "Onsen should not be monopolized, they are a gift of nature and the earth, so centralized management is the natural thing to do".
In fact, all hot spring areas in Japan have an agreement that no hot spring wells may be dug within a certain radius without a permit.
But it is a fact that there are many hot spring inns that have broken this rule and are drilling illegal hot spring wells under the guise of wells for drinking water.
In some famous hot spring areas, they dig hot springs unnecessarily to build large open-air baths, and as a result, the hot spring sources are depleted, and they repeatedly dig deeper and deeper to find new veins of hot water.
Such an inn, or rather such a hot spring area, should rethink that hot springs are common property, and should be centrally managed, as is the case here at Kaminoyama Onsen.

The spring quality of Kaminoyama Onsen and Arayu fountainhead is "Sodium Calcium - Chloride Sulfate Spring".
The temperature of the spring is 66.8℃.
The pH is 7.8 and the water is weak alkaline.
The weak alkaline spring water dissolves dead skin cells and sebum on the skin, making it smooth and silky.
In the old name of the spring, it was called a "Gypsum containing weak salt spring".
This spring has two characteristics: saline spring (sodium chloride spring) and gypsum spring (calcium sulfate spring).

Saline spring water is commonly called "Hot spring for warmth", and its saline content adheres to the skin, suppressing sweating and retaining warmth.
In other words, the skin is coated, and the sodium ions also work to retain moisture.
Gypsum spring water dilates blood vessels and improves blood circulation through the action of sulfate ions.
In addition, the calcium ions help to relax the body.
Gypsum springs are also known as "Hot spring for cuts", and are said to be good for cuts, burns, and skin diseases.
It is also expected to restore skin elasticity and tighten the skin.

Although not included in the original efficacy, there is such a thing as "Hot water for beauty".
This hot spring satisfies two of the four major conditions (1) weak alkalinity, (2) gypsum spring, (3) sodium bicarbonate spring, and (4) sulfur spring.
The hot water at Arimakan is definitely a "Hot spring for beauty".

According to the Ministry of the Environment's "Guidelines for Hot Springs Analysis Method", if the amount of dissolved substances per kilogram of water is 1,000 mg or more, the spring is certified as a "therapeutic spring" with the spring quality name, but the water at this inn has 2,600 mg (excluding gaseous substances). In other words, this hot spring is 2.6 times the regulated value.

The hot spring water at the inn is also drinkable. A statue of Yakushi Nyorai, the guardian of the hot spring, and there is a drinking fountain next to it.
The spring is indicated for lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes and obesity, gout, cholelithiasis, chronic cholecystitis, chronic gastrointestinal diseases, and chronic constipation.
Please drink slowly as if chewing the spring and take in the power of the natural hot spring water.

Although not on the grounds of the inn, there is a free "Fureai footbath" a few min. walk from the inn. This is a must for those who wish to communicate with the locals.
The inn is also equipped with two karaoke rooms.
Many guests enjoy it after dinner.
