FUMOTO RYOKAN -Facilities & Hot Spring Reports(3)-
"Fumoto Ryokan" uses a hot spring source that is jointly managed by several ryokans in Kurokawa Onsen. The amount used is approximately 104 liters/minute. Gensenkakenagashi(hot spring water flows directly from the source) means that new hot spring water is poured into the bathtub and any overflow is disposed of as is. The advantage of this method over the use of chlorine disinfectants or circulators is that the characteristics of the hot spring water can be felt as it is. In the case of a free-flowing spring, it is said that 1 liter/minute of spring water is required per guest in order to enjoy bathing in a sanitary condition. Since the maximum capacity of this facility is 50 people, the amount of spring water used is more than twice the standard value, by simple calculation. In reality, the rooms are rarely filled to maximum capacity, so it is safe to assume that the amount of spring water used per person is much higher. This ryokan has six bathhouses for both men and women, as well as seven private baths. In other words, there are 13 baths for 14 guest rooms, so when it comes to the use of hot water, it may be called a non-standard bathhouse. "Fumoto Ryokan" is located in the center of Kurokawa Onsen, a hot spring resort that has become a hot topic of conversation nationwide, and is home to many users of the "bathing pass" that allows one-day bathing. The separation of day-trippers and overnight guests may have led to this large number of baths, but the service spirit of the president and his wife is to be admired. Its day-trippers (visitors using the bath pass) use an area called "Yu-goya", which is connected to the main building by a taiko bashi bridge. |

There are two open-air baths: the men's "Momiji-no-Yu" along the river (for women from 9:00PM to 10:00PM) and the women-only "Uen-no-Yu" at the back of the bathhouse up a steep flight of stairs. Both are large enough to accommodate 10 adults, and are popular for their peaceful, green surroundings. It is perhaps the place where the feeling of travel is strongest, with its seclusion and quietness away from the hustle and bustle of the city. |
